  • a conviction for which an accused person has been sentenced in the past
COMMENT Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, a conviction becomes spent when the sentence has been served and a particular period of time (calculated in relation to the sentence) has passed. It is illegal for an employer to discriminate against a potential employee on the grounds of a spent conviction, and it should not be referred to in future legal proceedings.
