  • one of the types of court in England and Wales which hears local civil cases
COMMENT There are about 270 County Courts in England and Wales. County Courts are presided over by either district judges or circuit judges. They deal mainly with claims regarding money, but also deal with family matters, bankruptcies and claims concerning land. A district judge will hear most civil cases up to a value of £50,000, and a circuit judge will deal with more serious cases.
