  1. one of the two Law Officers for Scotland
  2. one of eight independent members forming part of the European Court of Justice together with 15 judges, who summarises and presents a case to the judges to assist them in coming to a decision
    (Note The plural is Advocates General.)
COMMENT The position of the Advocates General is equal to that of the fifteen judges in the European Court of Justice; their role is to give careful advice on legal matters.
